Finding Space

As summer has now officially settled in, many of us find ourselves taking vacations, slowing our schedules, or simply trying to catch our breath. I believe there is something healthy and holy about stepping away from the usual rhythm of work and responsibility.
During our study of Psalm 23 in Harvest, I was reminded that one of the beautiful details in the creation story is that Adam and Eve were created on the sixth day. The seventh day was a day of rest. Think about that for a moment. Before they accomplished anything, built anything, named anything, or managed anything, their first full day was spent resting in the presence of God. Their first experience was not work; it was being with their Creator.
What a reminder for us today. We are not defined by what we produce, accomplish or achieve. We are, first and foremost, beloved children of God.
The psalmist writes:
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him. (Psalm 37:7)
Summer can be a wonderful opportunity to practice that kind of stillness. Whether you’re on vacation or simply navigating another busy week, consider finding a few moments to reconnect with the One who made you.
Three simple ideas:
- Start your day with five minutes of Scripture before reaching for your phone.
- Take a short prayer walk during lunch, and thank God for His blessings.
- End the day by sitting quietly with a cup of coffee or tea, reflecting on where you saw God’s presence.
Remember, the goal isn’t adding another task to your list; it’s creating space to remember not just who you are but whose you are.
May this summer bring not only rest for your body but renewal for your soul.
In Jesus’ name!
