In Luke 14:15-24, Jesus tells a story about a great banquet prepared by a master who invites many guests. When those who were originally invited made excuses and refused to come, the master sends his servant out with the following orders: “Bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame” (Luke 14:21). When there is still room, he then says, “Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full” (Luke 14:23).
I love this parable of Jesus. The master’s banquet is a powerful metaphor for the kingdom of God, and in God’s kingdom, here’s the good news: All are invited and welcomed to the celebration!
The recent time changes we have made to our Chapel and Harvest services on our main campus are steps that we truly believe reflect the heart of what this parable is all about. Church, we are making space to make sure everyone has a seat and opportunity to hear the good news of Jesus Christ.
Friends, let us embrace the urgency of this mission. What a joy it is to serve alongside you all as we continue to invite and welcome those around us, ensuring all have the space to partake in the transformative message of Jesus.
