Growing up in Klein, Rev. Cabe Matthews was always fascinated with big questions. “I’m a learner. My favorite subjects growing up were science and church. I wanted to know the things of the universe and the things of God. How do things work? What’s the ‘why’?”
This curiosity about science and God led him to the University of Texas at Austin, where he majored in physics and became very involved with Campus Crusade for Christ.
After graduating from UT and working an eight-week stint with a start-up company, Cabe knew the corporate world was not where he needed to be, so he left for seminary, earning degrees from Seattle School of Theology and Psychology and Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University.
Cabe served as a youth minister for four and half years before going to the Methodist church in Montgomery as associate pastor in 2014. In 2022 he, along with Rev. David Lindwall, founded Christ the King Methodist Church in Montgomery, and in June 2023, their congregation voted to become The Church at Montgomery, a campus of The Woodlands Methodist Church.
Cabe says during his time as co-pastor of The Church at Montgomery, he “learned as clearly as anything what it looks like to step out in faith and trust God.”
He is stepping out in faith once again by taking on the new role of Pastor of Campus Discipleship. He is excited about the opportunity to combine the work of Discipleship Ministry on all campuses of TWMC to see what God can do.
“I’ve taught a lot of Bible studies in my life,” Cabe says. “It’s probably my favorite thing to do as a pastor. I’m excited that I’ll have plenty of opportunities to take people deeper into the Scriptures in this new role.”
Cabe lives in Montgomery with his wife, Stephanie, and two children, Annie June and Joshua Boaz.
